Monir Farmanfarmaian With Thethirdline In the Art Dubai 2023

Thethirdline gallery had shown artworks by monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian (1922-2019) in the Art Dubai 2023 Modern section.

Iranart:Farmanfarmaian is a famous Iranian artist, belonging to an earlier generation and created her works between the United States and Tehran.

She developed a successful career with a specific vocabulary that embraced the cosmic patterning of traditional geometry with modern abstraction. The drawings are some of her earlier works from the 1990s that were produced while the artist was in New York, during her 26-year exile, following the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979.

"My work is largely based on geometry which, as you know, always begins with a single point and can move from there into a circle. Or a point can become three leading to a triangle, or four to a square, five to a pentagon, hexagon, octagon, and so on — it’s endless. I was inspired by the geometry I found in old mosques with their tile, metal, wood, and plaster work.”

Monir Farmanfarmaian says in conversation in 2015 

The Modern section of Art Dubai 2023 presented 10 historical artists, nine of whom hail from the Middle East and South Asia. This particular focus paid homage to the dynamic of Dubai – a place of mixed cultures where more than 80% of residents come from these two major geographical and cultural areas.
