Art gallery in Perth acquires Farah Ossouli’s miniature paintings

TEHRAN.(Iranart) - The Art Gallery of Western Australia in Perth has purchased two Persian miniature paintings by the veteran contemporary painter Farah Ossouli.

Paintings are part of Ossouli’s “Wounded Virtue” collection that was first seen at Dastan Gallery in 2015. The artworks (75cmX56cm) are painted by gouache on arches paper, Honaronline reported on its Persian website.

The technique used in creating Persian miniature paintings is broadly comparable to the western and Byzantine traditions of miniature in illuminated manuscripts. The style of miniature painting, commonly used in Iran from 13th to the 16th centuries, has continued via contemporary artists.

Ossouli has also reproduced in her paintings poetry written by contemporary poets Ahmad Shamlou and Forough Farrokhzad.

Born in Zanjan, Ossouli, 65, is a graphic design graduate from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Tehran. She is one of the pioneers of revitalized miniature paintings.

During her 30-year career as an artist, she has achieved a unique fusion of techniques, materials, themes and storytelling, which has evolved into her personal style. She has been a pioneer in introducing contemporary themes and ideas into miniature painting.

She has held domestic and international exhibitions in the Middle East, Europe, Africa, North America and Asia.

Her paintings are part of collections in museums across continents, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Ludwig Museum in Koblenz, Germany, Tropen Museum in Amsterdam and Devi Art Foundation in New Delhi.
