Actor Hamid Jebelli who promised his fans and friends last year that he would return to the stage seems to be in the limelight next week not with his acting but with paintings from his collection “Sweet Nightmares”.

Iranart : TEHRAN : “My generation knows Hamid Jebelli by his voice and face but now it can be familiar with another of his abilities at this exhibit,” Kian Vatan, the 41-year-old painter who will curate Jebelli’s exhibition, told the Persian service of Honaronline on Wednesday.

About 40 paintings created over the past two years will be put on display at Tehran’s Atbin Gallery during the exhibition, which will open on Friday.

“I’m really pleased that my efforts have produced such favorable results as these artworks, which have rarely been seen before and will now be showcased for the public,” he added.

“The paintings cannot be categorized in any specific theme and Mr. Jebelli has drawn whatever he wanted,” Vatan noted.

He said that he knows Jebelli as a painter and sculptor rather than an actor, and added “Jebelli has also created collections of drawings and sculptures.”

Vatan expressed his hope that he can convince Jebelli to let him organize an exhibition of his sculptures in the near future.

The exhibition will run until December 12 at Atbin Gallery located at 42 Khakzad Alley, Vali-e Asr Ave near Parkway Intersection.

Jebelli is also an old hand at photography of theater. The Association of Iranian Theater Photographers honored him for his lifetime achievements in the field in May 2016 at a special ceremony, during which his friends Fatemeh Motamed-Arya and Reza Kianian asked him to return to the stage after his lengthy hiatus from working in Iranian cinema since 2012 when he played a role in “Kolah-Qermezi and Mama’s Boy”, the third sequel to director Iraj Tahmasb’s comedy drama.
