General Shakespeare Discussion at City Theater
TEHRAN – (Iranart)- On Friday, 9 November, prominent Iranian critics and university lecturers will discuss the nature of Shakespeare’s works, their resonance in his plays, and in today’s writing and thinking in the main hall of Shahr’s Café at the City Theater of Tehran on Valiasr Crossroad.
The main topics will include Shakespeare the master of playwriting, an overview on his works, and King Lear. The two-hour discussion in the English language will try to find new insights into Shakespeare’s enigmatic plays to help understand class, character psychology and mood.
William Shakespeare was an English poet, playwright and actor, widely regarded as both the greatest writer in the English language and the world's pre-eminent dramatist. He is often called England's national poet and the "Bard of Avon". Shakespeare’s works cross and challenge the boundaries of love, friendship, gender and literary form, and question what it means to be human.
A quick flick through any edition of a Shakespeare play is a visual reminder that all his drama is written using both prose and verse. On the page, the prose runs continuously from margin to margin, while the verse is set out in narrower blocks, neatly aligned on the left, but forming a slightly ragged right-hand edge.
Presided over by Talaye Zohrevandi, the one-off program is free for everyone to attend. This comes as The King Lear Theatre is scheduled to perform on stage at the City Theater on 13 November.
