‘King Lear’ Arriving in Summer
TEHRAN.(Iranart) – A cclaimed theater director Masoud Delkhah is preparing to bring one of the greatest plays of William Shakespeare on stage at City Theater in Tehran in summer.
‘King Lear’ is a tragedy depicting the gradual descent into madness of the title character, after he disposes of his kingdom giving bequests to two of his three daughters based on their flattery of him, bringing tragic consequences for all.
“I will not lead the performance in its original classic form,” Delkhah said, adding that it will be an unconventional modern performance.
He also mentioned that the performance has 12 main roles, all of which will be performed by professional actors. Veteran actor Akbar Zanjanpour, 73, was the only name he revealed to be among the cast, Mehr News Agency reported.
When casting for all characters is complete, rehearsals will begin on April 4.
In January, Delkhah staged an adaptation of the novel ‘Mephisto’ written by German author Klaus Mann (1906-49).
