MPs propose salute to Mohammadreza Shahjarian at Fajr music festival
A number of MPs has tabled a proposal to the organizers of the 35th Fajr International Music Festival to pay tribute to Iranian music legend Mohammadreza Shajarian during a special ceremony.
iranart : The proposal was put forward on Tuesday during a meeting with the organizers of the festival.
MPs Ahmad Mazani, Abdolkarim Hosseinzadeh, Fatemeh Saeidi, Fatemeh Zolqadr and Parvaneh Salahshuri, and Tayyebeh Siavashi were in attendance at the meeting.
“The MPs present at this meeting and I propose honoring master Shajarian during the Fajr festival,” said Mazani who is also a member of the Majlis Cultural Committee.
“We should regularly meet with him to be informed about his health,” he added.
Shajarian is currently battling kidney cancer. He spent several months in Sacramento, California, to receive treatment for his illness and returned home on September 16.
Mazani also pointed to the rule set by Imam Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic, during the 1980s to lift the ban on music, and criticized certain people for lodging objections to musical events.
The Fajr International Music Festival is scheduled to be held in Tehran from January 11 to 20.
