Writer Puran Farrokhzad dies at 84

Puran Farrokhzad, the author of “Woman from Writing to History”, an encyclopedia of world’s most influential women in the cultural field, died of heart failure at Tehran’s Iranmehr Hospital on Thursday, some Persian media announced. She was 84.

Born in the northern Iran city of Noshahr in 1932, she taught her brothers and sister to read and write before school age.

She was the writer of dozens of books, including “The Databank of Iran’s Most Influential Women”, “The Red Imaginations of a Poppy”, a selection of poems by female writers of the world, and “One Who Does Not Resemble Anyone”, about celebrated poet Forugh Farrokhzad who is also her sister.

She also composed poems published in several books, including “Happiness in Having Red Apples” and “The Chaotic War”.

Among the novels she wrote are “Behind the Mirror”, “Fire and Wind”, “At the End of Fire and Mirror”.
