Iran’s ‘The Snow Calls’ wins at Int’l Festival of Ethnological Film in Serbia
TEHRAN.(Iranart) –The Iranian documentary, ‘The Snow Calls,’ directed by Marjan Khosravi, received a special mention from the 30th International Festival of Ethnological Film in Serbia.
Mohammad-Taqi Bakhtiari, an official in the Iranian Embassy in Belgrade received the award on behalf of Khosravi.
The film centers on Mina who, after bearing three daughters, has just one more chance; her next child has to be a boy or her husband will marry another woman.
The film has already been selected as best feature at the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival in Missoula, Montana, the US.
Peter I. Crawford, Vlado Zrnić, and Maja Novaković evaluated the films at the festival.
According to the official website of the event, “the festival is an event that offers an insight into a wide range of ethnographic film themes and presents the work of filmmakers who explore both the traditional and modern lifestyles of human communities; it offers diverse insights, film forms and methodologies.”
The 30th International Festival of Ethnological Film was held from October 4 to 8 at the Ethnographic museum in Belgrade and Yugoslav Film Archive.
A total number of 56 films from around the world competed for the Grand Prix “Dragoslav Antonijević” and other prizes, six student films for the Best Student Film award, and 21 additional films were screened in the non-competitive and special programs.
