“Amir” crowned best debut at All Lights festival
TEHRAN.(Iranart) – “Amir” by Iranian director Nima Eqlima was picked as best debut film at the All Lights India International Film Festival in Hyderabad last week.
The film is about a generation whose private lives are determined more by the rules of society than by their own will.
It tells the story of Amir, a man in his thirties who is beleaguered by other peoples’ problems. His friend Ali’s ex-wife and son have gone missing, his sister is desperately trying to break away from the family, and his parents are trying to keep the family together.
Levon Haftvan, the star of Iranian drama “Kupal”, also won posthumous honorable mention. He died of a heart attack in March.
Actor Amir Aqai and producer Hassan Nazer, both from Iran, were among the members of the jury for the Debut Film Makers Competition.
“Octav” by Romanian director Serge Ioan Celebidachi and “Pupa” by Indian director Indrasis Acharya won the award for best feature films.
The award for best short film went to “The Domestic Fly” by Aron Horvath from Slovenia, while “The Art & Lega Power” by Richard Uyer Tumitho from Congo was selected as best documentary.
Iranian actress Rana Azadivar was also on the jury of the feature films and student short films categories.
“Saad” by Indian director Kunika Kharat was named best student short film.
