Golden Globe Nomination for Asghar Farhadi

nominations for the 74th Annual Golden Globe Awards were announced on Monday, December 12, and Asghar Farhadi’s acclaimed film ‘The Salesman’ is among the five nominees in the Best Motion Picture – Foreign Language category.

This is the third time the Iranian filmmaker is nominated for the foreign language film award at Golden Globe. His previous movies ‘A Separation’ and ‘The Past’ both found their way into the final list in the category in 2012 and 2014 respectively, while ‘A Separation’ won the award as well, Mehr News Agency reported.

Reacting to the selection of ‘Salesman’ for the award, Farhadi, 44, said, “I am glad to hear this spectacular news. It’s an honor to be nominated for the Golden Globe for the third time.”

‘The Salesman’ debuted at the 69th Cannes Film Festival in May and scooped two awards, the best screenplay for Farhadi and the best actor for Shahab Hosseini. Later the movie won more awards including the Best Foreign Language Film of 2016 at the National Board of Review in the US in November.

The American award was the first honor for the movie in the film awards season, a period between November and February every year, in the US, where a majority of important film award events take place.

Farhadi’s film is included in almost all film awards of the year in the foreign language film category. The other four nominees are ‘Divines’ (France), ‘Neruda (Chile), ‘Elle’ (France) and ‘Toni Erdmann’ (Germany).

Hosted by comedian Jimmy Fallon, the awards ceremony will be held on January 8, 2017 in Beverly Hills, California.

Produced by Dick Clark Productions in association with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the Golden Globes - one of the few awards shows to honor both film and television achievements - are broadcast in more than 236 countries and territories worldwide.
