‘Devil’s Daughter’ Shooting Kicks Off in Mumbai
TEHRAN.(Iranart) – T he filming of ‘The Devil’s Daughter’, the second joint feature film of Iran and India began in Mumbai on March 2, coinciding with the Holi Festival, widely known as ‘Festival of Colors’ marking the advent of spring.
Directed by Iranian filmmaker Qorban Mohammadpour and co-produced by Mohammadpour and Lucky Nadiadwala Morani from India, ‘Devil’s Daughter’ is the director’s second production in India after his 2016 movie ‘Salaam Mumbai’.
Featuring Iranian and Indian superstars Mohammad Reza Golzar and Dia Mirza, it was one of the box office hits of Iran in 2016; the melodrama made over 146 billion rials ($3.2 million) in Iran.
For his second project in India, Mohammadpour has cast celebrated Iranian actor Hamid Farrokhnejad, 48.
His comedies ‘Patrol 2’ and ‘The Good, the Bad, the Corny’ are among the top five hit films of the current Iranian year (ending March 20) in Iran, Honaronline reported.
Well-known Indian actor Jackie Shroff and actress Simran Mishrikoti have also been cast in the film, Indiantimes.com reported.
Shroff, 66, has performed in over 220 movies playing a variety of roles over four decades.
Speaking about his collaboration in the co-production, Shroff said, “This (Persian language) will be the 12th language I’ve spoken on the screen. I have worked in 11 languages so far and this is an exciting addition. I play a cameo in the film, but I can’t reveal much right now.”
The movie, which got its license from India’s Ministry of Culture following a few changes in the script, will have Iranian and Indian cast and crew.
According to the synopsis of ‘Devil’s Daughter’, it is the story of one of the devil’s children who repents for disobeying God and wants to be forgiven.
As penance for her sins, she should go and find a truly innocent human being and bow down before him or her.
