TEHRAN.(Iranart) - T he Second Sheed Persian Film Festival in Texas has dubbed its ‘Close-Up Award’ after one of the famous films of the celebrated Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami (1940-2016).
The docufiction ‘Close-Up’ (1990), written, directed and edited by Kiarostami, is among the director’s most acclaimed films. It was ranked 43rd in British Film Institute’s ‘Top 50 Greatest Films of All Time’.
This year’s edition of Sheed Festival, slated for November 10-12, will show nine Iranian feature dramas in the competition section. It will also screen six films in the out-of-competition section at Angelika Film Center in Dallas, in the presence of some Iranian and International cinema figures.
The best film, director, actor, and actress will be awarded at the closing ceremony, ISNA reported.
The three-day festival attempts to promote and present Iranian art and culture in the international community, and introduce contemporary Iranian cineastes and other Persian-language artists from across the globe.
‘Sheed’ is an old Persian word meaning “a light from above; an illumination coming from the sky”, and the event aims to promote the shining art of all Persian filmmakers to the western world.
